Time for tea
I was lucky enough to visit tea plantations in Kenya some years ago and this was one of my favourite images from the trip - a local worker was gathering up handfuls of freshly picked teal leaves and she paused to allow to take this shot of her handing the 'green gold'.
I share it here now on #EarthDay2022 to mark the eco-initiative that some of the producers in Kenya have launched to invest in greener production methods.
Bioenergy in the form of fuel briquettes made from sugarcane waste that would otherwise be left to rot and release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere is now being used to power the industry here instead of burning firewood. Used this way, the energy is cleaner, greener, and cheaper.
As someone once said, “Where there's tea there's hope.”
